Heal Through Clinical Care and Spiritual Renewal With Faith-Based Addiction Treatment in Florida
Heal Your Mind, Body, and Spirit Through Faith
Your Faith Can Be Your Foundation
You’ve attempted to stop on your own, have made commitments to doing so, relying on willpower, and you believed when you said to yourself that you’ll never use again. Each time, you have returned to old habits. If you feel like becoming sober is out of reach, it may not be due to a lack of strength; for many people, addiction to drugs, alcohol, and/or other substances is more than just physical; it is spiritual.
Our faith-based addiction treatment program at Agape Treatment Center in Florida offers an evidence-based, clinically proven methodology for recovering fully—physically, mentally, and spiritually—through the implementation of evidence-based clinical treatment and integration of Christian principles.
The recovery process is not merely about abstaining from the use of a substance; it is also about regaining hope and finding your purpose in life by rebuilding your relationship with God as a basis for becoming truly free.
At Agape Treatment Center in Florida, we offer a faith-based treatment program to help you re-establish a relationship with God while treating your addiction. For many individuals, sustaining recovery will include more than just clinical approaches; it will require revitalization of their spiritual life and an association with a higher power.
What is Faith-Based Addiction Treatment?
Faith-based addiction recovery is a type of rehabilitation that uses Christian principles, prayer, familial relationships, and Bible teachings to help you heal from addiction.[1] Unlike secular recovery programs that treat addiction as a psychological and medical issue, faith-based facilities will help address the void that often leads individuals to use drugs or alcohol, providing them with a spirituality-based, family-oriented, holistic approach instead.
Agape Treatment Center understands that addiction affects all aspects of life, and we offer a holistic solution using both medically-based and faith-based therapies.
Our faith-based approach will welcome individuals regardless of their religious beliefs. The supportive environment at Agape is a place you can connect to God while receiving medical assistance for your addictions and co-occurring mental health issues.
How Faith-Based Treatment Works
Faith-based addiction recovery works by treating the spiritual void caused by drug and alcohol use in addition to providing evidence-based medical and therapeutic interventions. Most people with an addiction have used drugs or alcohol to fill a void, cope with emotional pain, or experience hopelessness and disconnection. Faith-based addiction recovery recognizes that a relationship with God and being supported by the Christian community will give an individual more assurance of purpose and hope than what they have found in drugs and alcohol.
Integrating Clinical and Spiritual Care
The integration of faith-based and evidence-based treatments is used through participation in individual therapy for mental health and trauma, therapy groups where individuals learn coping skills and techniques to prevent future use, and in prayer, scripture reading, and participating in worship as part of establishing a stronger faith in God and the Christian community.
The Role of the 12 Steps and Community
Faith-based treatment uses the 12-step process of surrendering to a higher power and recognizing the powerlessness over addiction and dependence. Individuals use scriptures to find hope and strength, prayer to speak to God during difficult times, and communion with other believers to hold one another accountable for their conduct.
Enhancing Secular Recovery Models
The integration of faith-based and evidence-based recovery programs is not meant to replace evidence-based programs, but rather enhance them through the inclusion of spiritual solutions to the problem of addiction, which is the missing component in most secular recovery programs.
Efficacy of Faith-Based Treatment
Research confirms that faith-based treatment for addiction can be effective:
Improved outcomes
Research indicates that people who participate in faith-based rehab achieve results similar or superior to those in secular programs, and in some instances have lower rates of relapse if they engage in a spiritual program.[2]
Enhanced motivation
The honor of God and the desire to honor Him and live up to Christian values allow someone struggling with addiction to have increased commitment to their recovery.[3]
Community support
Connection to a faith community provides long-term support beyond formal treatment, and involvement in a church has been associated with continued recovery.[4]
Treatment of co-occurring disorders
Effective faith-based approaches provide hope and spiritual resources to treat both substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health issues like depression and anxiety.[5]
Meaningful existence
Research suggests that finding meaning and purpose through faith can assist in rebuilding one’s identity apart from addiction, which is essential to prolonged recovery.[6]
The message from the evidence is clear: Faith-based treatment is a holistic approach to recovery by addressing both spiritual and clinical needs.
What to Expect from Faith-Based Treatment
Faith-based treatment for addiction combines clinical care with spiritual support to create a structured plan for recovery. This approach has proven effective by using your faith as a direct tool to help you overcome addiction.
Faith-based treatment is available in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The primary goal in either environment is to help you recover with the help of medical professionals who truly understand how to integrate spiritual assistance into the healing process.

Frequently Asked Questions About Faith-Based Rehab in Florida
Do I have to be Christian to attend faith-based treatment at Agape?
No. While our program is Christian-centered, we are accepting of people at any level of their spiritual journey, and we do not force beliefs on anyone. There are people who were non-believers when they entered our program and found Christ during their recovery, just as there are people who participate in the program without converting to faith, but treat it with respect. The key is that you approach us with an “open mind” toward the spiritual component of the healing process.
Will faith-based treatment actually help my addiction, or is it just religion added to regular rehab?
The evidence-based therapies (CBT, DBT, medical care) used by traditional recovery programs will not change. You will receive the same scientifically proven treatments to treat addiction as traditional, secular programs. In addition, faith-based treatment programs will use faith, spirituality, and God as additional support for the entire process. It is not that the clinical aspect of recovery is converted to religion; it’s that the added spiritual component can improve the chances of successfully maintaining a lifestyle of recovery.
Is faith-based rehab covered by insurance like regular addiction treatment?
Yes. Like traditional addiction rehabilitation centers, faith-based treatment centers like Agape have been accredited and licensed by the State of Florida or by the Joint Commission. You can expect your healthcare benefits to include reimbursement for a faith-based treatment facility, and the faith-based services are included along with the main components of traditional addiction treatment. We work with the insurance industry to maximize your coverage for all entitled benefits and to assist you with understanding your benefits coverage.
Can faith-based treatment help if I also have depression, anxiety, or other mental health issues?
Yes. We provide a dual diagnosis program that will treat both the substance use disorder and the co-occurring mental and behavioral health diagnosis. Our licensed providers will provide evidence-based treatment to address these issues and also provide faith-based support. Most people who incorporate faith-based spiritual practices (reading the Bible, prayer, attending church) in conjunction with the clinical treatment have additional hope and comfort in treating their depression or anxiety.
What happens after I complete treatment—will I have ongoing faith-based support?
Yes. Aftercare consists of connection to the faith community and offering information on how to connect to local churches or Christian recovery centers. Many of our alumni stay connected through our alumni program or maintain relationships with the believers they met in treatment. We understand the need for ongoing clinical and spiritual support for continued recovery, and we will assist you in establishing a Christian support wire for life after treatment.
